Classic Car Floor Mats
It is said that Americans have a love affair with the road. They also have a love affair with the cars that take them down that road. No kind of car incites more passion than a classic American car. There is even a special license plate available for your classic if you so choose. In order to get a classic car license plate your car must be over fifteen years old and come from a line that is no longer getting coming out with annual releases.
It must also be restored to look similar to its original look and running condition. However, the Classic Car Club of America says that no car built after 1959 can ever be a classic. Regardless of which specifications you follow, if you own a classic car, chances are you will spend most of your weekends and spare change fixing it up. True classic car aficionados want their cars to look just like they did when they rolled off the factory line, right down to the classic car floor mats.
Floor mats are actually a good investment for any car. They keep mud and other street debris that collects on the bottom of your shoes from getting ground into the floor of your car. They can be removed and cleaned or they can be removed and replaced if the situation warrants it. This way, the stains stay on the mat and are not permanently ground in to your car’s floor. It keeps your car looking new longer. Most car manufacturers know that people want floor mats and actually include them with the car. These floor mats are generally emblazoned with the company’s logo so you will always be reminded that you are driving a Ford or a Chevy.
When you are restoring your classic car, you will have to hunt around to find floor mats that are similar to the original manufacturer’s installation. If you are truly lucky, you might find original floor mats, but they are just as difficult to find as original tires. That is because rubber, especially the natural latex rubber that was often used in the past, degrades over time. Constant exposure to extremes of heat and cold, such as those experienced inside a car on a summer’s day, will cause the rubber to slowly break down. It can crack, tear, or simply wear thin. Since the original purchaser of a car that is now considered a classic would have used his floor mats for utilitarian purposes, chances are he eventually threw out the original mats after they became too worn down.
Fortunately there are many classic car sites on the internet that are willing to make custom classic car floor mats for your vehicle. For you, the process is as simple as submitting the model, make, and year of your classic car. The craftsmen will then be able to look up the specific design and materials that were used to make the original floor mat and craft you a custom pair. Floor mats are just one more detail that makes your classic car a work of art.
Floor mats are a must if you want to preserve the underlying carpet/vinyl. Thanks for the tip, I have always bought off the shelf and cut myself to fit, but having custom made makes sense!
Once a car is more than a few years old it becomes very difficult to find custom fit floor mats. I know this because they are almost non existent for vans. Lots of cut to fit, and lots of universal mats but finding a matching custom van mat for an older van is very difficult.

Honestly, I’ve always taken my floor mats for granted, but you have opened my eyes to the importance of them, especially when it comes to classic cars!
Thanks

Yes sir…..floormats do help make the interior look better. Also, the ability to polish with a “wet look” will greatly assist in the curb appeal of your ‘lady’.
